American
Bank Cafe
The cafe is the final phase of a 3-part project and continuation of
the concept developed for the Mini Branch and Drive-Thru Facility.
The mission was to relocate the existing employee break room and change
the identity to a cafe with outdoor access and seating. We also wanted
to provide a strong visual link to the outdoor courtyard and the Keith
Haring sculpture. The client is a banker and art collector and the
concept provides the required cafe’ function inspired by and
visually sympathetic to the art being viewed.
The site orientation relates
to south and west sun control, visual access to the courtyard and “protection”,
visually and acoustically from the public street on the south and drive-in
traffic
on the north and west. The black brick is introduced to provide a new
and clear change in the architecture and the philosophy of the institution.
A physical and visual link between the cafe interior space and the
Haring sculpture was provided through the use of the green color and
the lighted glass panel.
