Autism Awareness License Plate
Autism Awareness License Plate
08-Aug-2011

Last session, the Oklahoma Legislature authorized the sale of an autism awareness license plate. A design contest was held and our very own Michael Shuck won! His design incorporates the multi-colored puzzle pieces that are the national symbol of autism awareness. The puzzle pieces reflect the complexity of Autism Spectrum Disorder and how those affected by autism work to improve their lives by solving the whole puzzle one piece at a time. The different colors represent the diversity of how autism affects individuals on the spectrum. The bright colors symbolize how positive the experience of living with autism really is. The large red puzzle piece highlighted in the design has become the symbol of autism awareness in Oklahoma and is based on Michaels earlier design for the Oklahoma Autism Piece Walk which features Dash, a red puzzle piece running. You can visit Dash at www.PieceWalk.org

You can get an autism awareness license plate from the Oklahoma Tax Commission for $18.00. www.tax.ok.gov/plates/sp194.html
