Chesapeake Boathouse

The boathouse is a project of the Oklahoma Association for Rowing (OAR), a nonprofit community organization offering rowing programs for junior, adult and collegiate rowers. The design was commissioned by Aubrey McClendon and Chesapeake Energy, a major supporter of the privately funded project.

The 14,578gsf boathouse will be located on the North Canadian River. The project is designed as a metaphor for a rowing shell and includes a reflecting pool wrapping two sides of the structure. The steel framed building will have translucent polycarbonate walls and a white standing-seam metal roof. Dramatic night lighting will create the sense that the building is floating above water. Plans for the boathouse include reception and meeting areas, catering facilities and a fitness room, as well as boat storage and repair areas.
