Historic Annandale Witches House Sells For Eight Million

Highroyd, one of the iconic historic Witches Houses located in Sydney’s Inner West suburb of Annandale, has officially changed hands for approximately $8 million historical architecture. This late-Victorian Eclectic Gothic trophy residence was sold by the prominent founders of the Australian skincare brand Ultraceuticals, Dr. Geoffrey Heber and Dr. Deborah Davis.

The stellar property transaction marks the end of a long chapter for the vendors, who originally acquired the grand, dilapidated mansion back in 1989 for just $700,000. Their subsequent preservation journey serves as a masterclass in modern home design blended seamlessly with heritage conservation.

From Dilapidated Ruin to Architectural Triumph

Following their 1989 purchase, the couple embarked on a massive restoration project for the 1886 property. The meticulous overhaul was expertly overseen by architect David Springett of Paragrid Architects.

During their tenure, the creative layout utilized the lower two floors to operate a pioneering cosmetic medical practice. Meanwhile, the upper two levels served as a unique family home where they raised their children.

The Legacy of John Young

Highroyd remains a rare survivor, standing as one of only eight unique residences built by master builder and developer John Young before the devastating 1890s depression. Young originally envisioned Johnston Street transforming into the absolute finest street in the entire colony regional architecture.
