KOGAA transforms Czech industrial shed into Šmeral Art Factory.

Local architecture studio KOGAA has brilliantly converted a former industrial shed in Brno, Czech Republic, into the vibrant Šmeral Art Factory exhibition and events space. Industrial Heritage Meets Modern Public Life

The overarching strategy focused on maintaining the raw, authentic character of the warehouse rather than over-sanitizing the structure. Historic elements were carefully restored to celebrate the site’s rich manufacturing pedigree.

Palette and Historic Accents

Designers applied a distinctive pale mint-green paint to the existing steel trusses, choosing the hue as a direct nod to historical factory finishes. This unifying mint-green palette also extends to new wall-mounted ventilation chimneys and the robust steelwork framing a performance canopy.

Activating the Exterior and Interior Spaces
